2042 the final nail in the coffin?
Perhaps I'm just being incredibly negative here but does anyone else feel like 2042 was the last game that should have exceeded expectations for modern day games?
It's almost like any time a game is announced, we get these incredible trailers, gameplays and then the huge disaster that is real time play.
BF 2042, Cyberpunk, Call of Duty (Nothing new here), No Man's Sky (granted it got fixed eventually), Dayz, Breakpoint.
It's like they start a game design, pitch it to the alpha community, alpha community give their brutal opinion that its shit, company continues with their design and ignores feedback. Begins building game and just so blatantly refuses to test it. Sells it off as AAA then says "we have a first year of DLC planned for you already". Once the game is released and completely ripped to shreds by the world, they ignore it and say, "the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive".
Battlefield 2042 was being created by 6 huge studios and I had high hopes that this game was going to turn the tide for me, especially after the god awful disaster that was 2077. Now I finally understand to never by a game on release, to save myself money and not put my faith in studios that were once creating absolutely groundbreaking and boundary pushing masterpieces.
The only studio I've seen actually communicate and take on board community feedback was LemonSky (C&C Remaster) which went on for months if not a full year of constant review and feedback. Surprisingly, that was backed by EA.
If even 2042 can't take their product seriously and make something to be proud of, I don't see what big games developer will.
