Warlock questions

I’ve been messing around with a warlock for a few days. The class seems to be a little weak. So far I’ve been getting crushed in elite dungeons. Do they get stronger at higher levels? And does anyone have a newbie friendly build with good aoe and some croud control? Thanks in advance
