My boyfriend (26) of 4 years has anger management issues and accidentally hurt me (26F) physically last week.

Since we were dating I noticed this habit of his when he can't contain his anger that he hurts himself, throws things or punch walls, but he never hurt me.

One day last week, he got frustrated because the glass in the back of his dad's car that he was using was broken and we don't know what happened. He was calling a repair shop and was immediately scheduled to get it fixed the day after. I asked how much was it because I'm not familiar with car parts and when he told me, I think I sighed and held my head because it's kinda pricey and I suggested to look for other shops just for price comparison. That's when he got so mad at me telling me why would I say that when he already found a solution. He told me there's no need to look for another shop and I told him I was just trying to help and there's nothing wrong in looking for other shops as a backup or alternative. That's when the situation escalated, he went back to his old habit of hurting himself due to anger, I went silent and ignored him but he won't let me not say anything and keeps on telling me to say something but I said I won't because I know the fight will just get worse. We were sitting on the floor and we keep on arguing about that there's nothing wrong with what I said etc. and then he suddenly grabbed a small wooden stick that I was using for my nails that time, and was about to stab his leg with it but he accidentally stabbed my knee instead. It hurts so much that I cried and I told him to let me go so I can wash it but he just hugged my knee and puts on pressure and removed the blood. We were both hysterically crying about it.

That night, he was crying and told me that he thinks we have to be separated due to his issues and since this time he physically hurt me. I agreed to him but I know this issue is because of his estranged/indifferent relationship with this father. He got so frustrated bcos of the broken glass because I know he is scared of his father and he let out his frustrations and anger to me by causing that unnecessary fight which led him to accidentally hurting me.

I want to help him by telling him to go see a psych for his issues and I will be there to support him but at the same time I know that what he did was so unfair and wrong because he took his anger unto me and may lead to more situations like these in the future.

TLDR; bf of 4 years with anger management issues maybe due to his estranged relationship with his father, took his anger unto me but this time accidentally physically hurt me.
