BMO TFSA > DRS: 10 minute call. No transfer to non-tfsa account required.

Glad I read this subreddit before I called.

The first BMO InvestorLine agent I talked to on the phone and told me that DRSing from my TFSA account would require transferring into an individual account, waiting the several business day period for that to clear, and then transferring out to DRS. Totalling up to 15 business days.

Based on what I read here I decided to hang up and try another agent. The second agent I talked to knew what I wanted right away.

I simply asked “I would like to digitally DRS 100% of my GME shares in my TFSA.”

The agent put me on a short hold and returned to tell me he’s finished the request and the entire process would be complete and my stonks would be directly registered in 7-8 business days.

The whole exchange took two minutes and the remaining 8 were a fascinating conversation where he asked me why I’m DRSing and I explained my dislike of street name registration, cede & co and the overall movement to DRS the float!

If you are DRSing from a TFSA don’t accept no for an answer. Hang up until you find an agent who knows how to skip the transfer to another account step. It is possible and best of all, free!
