A follow up to my previous post. I believe this is the easiest way to 'do and forget' when making new food production with farms.

Edit: this works with as many villagers as you want. Reasn for 8 is for optimization sake.

Reason for right-clicking the mill after making the farms is to force villagers to stay at farms after making them. If you don't right click then they'll make all 8 farms together before starting gathering.

You just singlehandedly improved my elo by 50 points. Genius mate!

What if the mill is already there. Or you’re building around a TC? What exactly is overriding the villagers building as a group before allocating themselves to each farm?

It seems that if you Shift+Build the priority goes to building AND THEN to gathering. If you right click on a farm after queuing them all, then they'll stay back to gather after finishing each farm.

  1. Select the villagers you want
  2. Place Mill (Q+W to select it)
  3. Q+A to select Farm - this is the step that isn't shown properly in the video
  4. Hover cursor over the mill
  5. Hold Shift
  6. Click until you have enough farms
  7. Let go of Shift and Right click on the mill

It’s important to not be holding shift when you do the final right click on mill/farm though

Thank you much clearer

Is anyone else finding this doesn't work on terrain previously covered by forest? If I want to build over an old forest I have to place each farm individually

I noticed before you right click on mill you randomly click outside it... Why?

Honestly I didn't mean to do it, but AOE's hitboxes are really weird sometimes. I moved the mouse to bring attention to it as well as to reposition it a bit. Game decided it wasn't on a building anymore and sent a move command.

Now do one with 16 villagers

Split them in two groups, it's more efficient

This can be further improved by placing all the farms and hitting stop on the vills, making them idle workers. Now hit the "next idle worker"-hotkey and right click one of the placed fields, next-idle-worker > second field, next-idle-worker > third field... making each vill create one field and farming it after.

Correct. That's indeed possible but takes a lot more actions and attention from the player. But if you can spare those, it's an even more efficient method!
