Why are games like this?

:Discussion: DISCUSSION

(No this is not an angry rant post, this is a legit question)

I play 2v2’s mainly and I am currently gold 2 bouncing between division 3 and 4.

Whenever I play solo, one of two things that seems to happen is: either me and my teammate can understand each other and our rotations so that we end up winning, OR we are out of sync the entire game and it’s a coin flip whether the enemy team is good or not if we win.

I do play with a friend frequently and we are pretty good at understanding each other without needing to call stuff out (mostly)

So my question is, how do I win more consistently when I play with randos where we just don’t click and can’t rotate correctly? It feels like I can’t do anything because I am still learning the game and working on my mechanics so I can’t really carry very well.

When it comes to gold, I stuck heavily to defence 90% of the time because I didn't trust anyone. I would spend most of my time playing 3rd man back and focus on clearing the ball.

One of the things that I did after watching a certain video helped (Mistakes made in the corner), because double commiting/ball chasing happens alot I would often sit at back post alot longer until I have a clean shot to clear the ball. Just remember if all 5 of the other players are in the corner, it's not likely to be an immediate treat and they're pretty much playing ping pong in the corner.

Rotations are great for people who also rotate or match your style. Anyway good luck

I was stuck in gold for way too long. Only plat at this point so I’m no expert. What got me out of gold was a combination of a couple things. I started playing more defensively with randos, only pushing up and taking shots when I could tell they were flying through the air or behind the play or if it was a good pass. I felt like I cycled between goal and center too many times. I also started mixing arials in. If you can get high enough accurately and consistently, most golds can’t reach you and you’ve got a free(but difficult) shot at the goal. Finally, I also started matching with people that I played well with. Wether I was hanging back more or being the aggresor, it helped to have someone who I played well with where we understood how to rotate. Hope that helps!

Most people at gold overextend and ball chase so adjusting to having teammates like that, getting a skill to compliment and take advantage of it, or finding those that don’t do it are about your only ways up from what I know

Something I was told a while ago on this sub that really helped change my mindset. You have to read your own team. Learn to fill in the gaps that you observe. Yeah, you can try to take control and push offensively, but if your teammate chases all the time then it’s better to rotate out and push when they seem to be rotating. It’s hard, but learning to fill the gaps has helped me all around.
