Declaration draft sent to me to approve despite being told interview was for "Information gathering only"
Trying to not give too many details away, but my current employer is being sued by a former employee about events that happened a few years ago. Several months ago all current employees were interviewed by my employer's attorney and we were told that it was just to gather information and that it was completely voluntary to participate. The other day I was sent a draft of a Declaration to be reviewed for accuracy based on the interview. I reviewed it, made several changes as I felt that things were not quite what I said during the interview and sent it back. I still haven't gotten another draft back, and I haven't signed anything.
I have no problem signing a declaration as long as I agree with every single word in there, but I do have a gnawing feeling in my gut every time I think about this situation. I feel like I was misled in the interview by being told it was just to gather information. I was told that the interview was not a formal statement or anything and if there was something I didn't want to answer I did not have to. Should I have been informed that anything I said during the interview may later be used to help create a declaration?
At this point I just feel like telling the attorney that I feel misled or that I feel the information being used in the declaration was gathered under false pretenses and that I won't sign it just based on that. I really don't want to cause trouble for either side of this lawsuit, but I don't feel that the attorney should get away with what I feel may be questionable behavior in obtaining information.
