Photo editing laptop

Hi folks, first off thank you for taking the time to read this.

I am looking for a laptop for my mother, who is interested in a large screened laptop in order to edit the photos that she prints, frames, and sells at craft shows.

  1. What is your budget? As cheap as possible, as long as it can still do it's job, which again is primarily photo editing.

  2. What size notebook would you prefer? 17"+ screen.

  3. Where will you buying this notebook? New York, USA.

  4. Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? Well, the laptop she is replacing is an HP, which overheated and unseated it's graphics card multiple times. Before that she purchased a Toshiba, which also fried. So, she may be hesitant about either of those names.

  5. Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? If they included a warranty, sure.

  6. What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? Light internet, Microsoft office work. Mainly photo editing. .

  7. Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? The laptop does not need to be super portable, as she never brings it out of the house, just so long as she can rather easily move it between rooms

  8. Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games? Very very lightly, meaning those basic $10 search and find games.

  9. How many hours of battery life do you need? This is negligible, it will nearly always be plugged in.

  10. Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? I think she would be ok with this, however if you can find one that she could also put her hands on at say Best Buy, all the more power to you.

  11. What OS do you prefer? Windows 7.

  12. From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? 1920x1080, HD graphics.

  13. Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen? This doesn't so much matter.

Build Quality and Design

  1. Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? quality is more important than stylishness but it would be nice if it looked good (but this is not a priority)

  2. When are you buying this laptop? Depending on the price, maybe very soon.

  3. How long do you want this laptop to last? Preferably for years. She is the kind of person who once she has a system doesn't like to get rid of it (We still have systems in the house that run windows 3.1)

Notebook Components

  1. How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive? SSD is unimportant. She also has several external hard drives, so it doesn't need to have a huge internal Hard Drive, but it should be enough to hold all her photo editing programs and a large number of pictures at any given time.

  2. Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? Yes a DVD burner is required.

Thank you for your time.
