Why don't Christians stop reading the Old Testament?

I know that Christians can be very good at ignoring the old testament, but why don't all christians drop the old testament and stick only to the Jesus stuff?

If most of them are going to ignore it, and it's simply used as a record for how god used to torture people before killing himself to forgive them for sins he allows them to commit based on a scale of punishment that he implemented, why not just get out some scissors and just stick to the water to wine parables?

I think there might be some money in this.

Also, if there are sects of christianity that do this, I would be interested, as I was raised Roman Catholic and post-brainwashing didn't feel the need to study the different styles of sheep.
