Do you think animals can be autistic?
My cat can't stand being held and likes to get love (petting and kittycat massages) on her own terms. She's very skittish and she has some odd habits like licking the walls and floor. She's smart in some ways (she understands many words) but is quite abnormal in other ways (she still doesn't know how to open a cracked door with her head - she puts her paw in the crack, hoping I'll open the door while I scream at her to "Just push it with your head!") Even the other cats look at her like she's an alien. So many of her behaviors point to some form of autism for cats. Do you think autism happens in animals?
She is a sweet cat and we love her and all her quirks. Just wondering if anyone else has similar concerns about their own cat or dog or any expert out there has any theories. Thanks!
