What is your perfect middle school math class?

Okay reddit, I've gone to college and can now become a rich a middle school math teacher.

Let's face it, most of the time math classes suck. Even through my student teaching experience and subbing I've done I just can't make it fun.

I know a lot of you use math, became engineers, love mathematics. So, how do YOU think a "fun" math class that actually inspires children to learn the material instead of just coming in, slugging through homework, and getting out of there.

Every math teacher who's lesson plans I have looked through(I'm a sub so I get plenty a chance to oggle their goods) goes like this "Go over homework from day before, assign new homework". It is just grinding the material in and I know that isn't right but it seems every instructor I have come across thinks this is the way!

So... if I snag a wealthy teacher job next term, what changes do you think could benefit a mathematics classroom(Grades 4-9)?

So the categories for suggestions would be:

Daily Plan:

Homework and Grading:

Activities(and frequency): Large project ideas that help learning... seriously how the fuck do you make learning the distributive property fun?

Room: What physical environment would motivate you as a child to be happy to come to math class?

Perks: What fun things do you think would help motivate you when you were in school?
