Split Tracks vs Compliations

Just asking to because I'm curious.

I prefer having split tracks (files). Is there a reason why most of the music is always presented (and download-able) only as compilations? I

Split tracks allow me to skip, delete, and rate me collection of my local music library.

I understand that it is easier for streaming off of soundcloud or something. What do you prefer?
