Lift Grenades and Biotic Explosions

I have a simple enough question for everyone.

Last night I unlocked the Drell Adept and was curious if I should bother putting points into his lift grenade ability. Do they work to trigger biotic explosions? Or does using biotics on someone lifted create the explosion?
