Confused after breakup

Recently, my girlfriend broke up with me because she decide that she just didn't have enough time for a relationship at this point in her life. However, she told me she wants to continue to be friends. After conversing with her about this, she told me her feelings for me will always be there. I still have feelings for her too. What I don't understand it, how can she want to be just friends, but still have feelings for me?
