The Last Guardian doesn't have a female protagonist because "girls can't climb".
"Crazy fun fact: The Last Guardian was originally supposed to have a small female lead, however Ueda felt the little girl wouldn't have as good of a grip as a boy to climb the massive Trico. He also mentioned that girls wear skirts..."
No, yeah, Ueda, the concept is so flawlessly realistic otherwise that this single thing would totally break our suspension of disbelief. I'd be looking at this fucking griffin/cat/whatever and being like "man how does that little girl have the stamina to climb it?? that's preposterous". Thank god you're here to preserve realism.
Oh, and girls wear skirts so you'd get upskirts when she climbed and that's bad. You can't give her pants or something, or shorts, you HAVE to give her a skirt, and that would lead to upskirts. An absolutely seamless argument.
