Help me create some excitement about ChemE for new students! Why do you love doing it?
I've been doing a few faculty presentation sessions for prospective students and trying to hype up ChemE, which got me thinking about how to describe what we do in a manner which can appeal to students (high school and freshmen). I'm in my fourth year of my degree right now, and although I can think of a few awesome academic reasons of why ChemE is awesome, I'm wondering about what makes you tick, either at school or at work.
On a slightly related note, I'm also wondering about what you think about the general public opinion of ChemE - very, very few of the students I've talked to want to go into ChemE from the beginning, while most want to go into Mech, Electrical, or Aerospace. I've even had a disturbing percentage of people tell me that ChemEs are the rejects from Mech/Electrical, which was slightly baffling to me. I know that, at least for our school, ChemE has at least as difficult of a entrance GPA requirement than Mech (it was actually harder to get into Chem than Mech last year). Any words of advice for dealing with this?
Thanks!
