Recommendations on a nice sharp cheddar?

So last year I moved back to the US from Australia. The Aussies have some serious cheese; not a ton of variety like in most US stores, but what there is truly excels (unlike most of what I can find in any of the three grocery stores near me, ugh). Anyways, I got addicted to Cracker Barrel Black Label vintage cheddar down there. Came up here, tried the same stuff, completely different flavor. It's wussified. Bland, not crumbly, not sharp at all. The stuff down there was sharp, tangy, crumbly, pale gold but had little bits of white stuff on it from the age.

So I've been trying different cheddars but haven't found anything really strong; seems like stuff that's 3 years old is closest to what I'm looking for. There was a Tillamook 3 year old cheddar that was good and close, but the store doesn't cary it often.

Today I tried a cave aged cheddar that was nice, but totally not what I was looking for. Too tame and mellow, more like a mild parmesan than a strong cheddar. So I'm hoping - does anyone know someplace I can get a really, really kick-ass strong cheddar? Preferably without going broke? As entertaining as trying all these cheeses can be, I'm getting discouraged.

TLDR: Looking for strong old cheddar without taking out a second mortgage or flying to France.
