Why is there a delay during live interviews on tv news if we have real-time video chat like Skype?

... seriously, with the awkward waiting between the participants, and the accidentally talking over each other all the time...

wtf, tv news people? get your shit together.

edit: yeah, i get the 7 second delay for censoring things, but are they doing a 7 second delay on both the interviewer AND interviewee? why not just do a delay on the whole thing to get rid of the awkward pauses?
