Why are webcams so damn hard to install?!

It seems every time I try to install a webcam, it just doesn't work. Maybe I have bad luck. I don't know.

I have 2 webcams. One is an older one, one is a newer one. The newer one works on my moms computer and the older one works on my brothers computer, so they're both confirmed as working.

Now I'm trying to install them on my netbook and they're.. not working. 2 different webcams, 2 different pieces of software/drivers, neither work.

I plug one in, the computer recognizes it. The device installation screen shows up.. I cancel out of that because it's worthless. I then try to install the program/drivers. I open it and it tells me to insert the camera and when I do that, nothing shows up except the windows "found a device" screen. Of course that doesn't do anything.

Anyways, I've had this problem a LOT in the past (on other computers, too.) and I'm just wondering why it's so damn hard to install a simple webcam?!!!? I even did a re-install of the software/restarted computer. Nothing.

Old Webcam: QuickCam® Communicate STX M/N: V-UBK45, V-UBK45

New Webcam: Logitech C210 M/N: V-U0019

Any body have any things I could try?
