Hi /r/philly, my girlfriend and I are looking for a room for rent in CC area. (read on..)

About us: (here is a quick IMGUR gallery of us)

I am 27, a freelance web developer with experience that extends from dirty jobs like horticulture and construction to the more manicured jobs like hospitality and sales. Kimmy is 26, a part-time student and Army veteran with skills ranging from repairing diesel engines, air traffic control (cert’d) and she makes some really yummy baked goods (as per the teaser above). We’ve been together for just over 2 years, moved around a lot, and came home to philly last year after discovering FL has turned to a wasteland. We are both very talented in the kitchen and enjoy cooking for others. Most importantly we are quiet and clean, we don’t often have guests but when we do, it’s to have some coffee and cake with a neighbor. We have a 7yr old kitty named “chdr”, a well-behaved, bug-free, fixed/front-declawed male cat who was born in Florida and traveled with me since he was no bigger than the palm of my hand. Our friends consist entirely of redditors (who hopefully upvoted this for us!!) so there is a good chance we already know the same people.

Our vices:

Coffee => All day, pressed and we miss Old City Coffee.

Cigs => Outside, always outside.

Alcohol => Seems like once/twice a month any more.

420 => It’s nice to have some times, we share.

??? => ???

Profit => We work on our projects often 12 hrs a day for weeks. ie. addicted to our work.

Our current home: (this is where it gets real)

We are former city dwellers, living in what turns out to be the armpit of Doylestown (Bucks County). After a bit of traveling, we settled on this charming home on the Neshaminy creek which used to be an old antique shop. From the start we felt swindled when rent turned out to be $100 more than listed with a mandatory monthly fee of $175 for oil hidden in a stack of paperwork, and missing several key amenities that were advertised. We shrugged it off and settled into our new home on Christmas eve. Since then, we have discovered that only a few months prior, three neighbors lost their cars to floods, and our home apparently is low enough where it gets flooded as well. We again shrugged it off and decided we would cross that bridge when we got to it. As passive as we have been, the walls show serious water damage, the 2 gallon dehumidifier fills up after 5 or 6 hrs, and our water pressure is inconsistent, sometimes no stronger than a slow leak. We can deal, i guess, moving on to a few weeks ago, i wake up to a backhoe digging a big hole in our front yard and the most putrid smell i think either of us have ever experienced.. and I was a commercial fisherman, and she was in Iraq. Turns out, the septic tank is leaking and the majority of the waste is either pooling in our yard or dumping into the creek (where children play, old men fish, and unaware neighbors kayak). I assumed ~two weeks ago that this disaster was being quickly managed, NOPE. I asked the property manager and the owner himself, their response “Not an issue for you.” and “It will probably sit like that for about 10 months.” Ho-lee shit. The house is taking on the odor and we are terrified of the idea of mosquitos and bugs spreading this filth (and possibly disease) as the summer approaches. We need out and that means breaking a lease and kissing our $1100 deposit goodbye. We don’t break contracts, so this will be a moral hurdle as well as an emotional one.

Our search: (where you come in)

The city is where our friends are and where we both were most successful financially. We would feel better helping another redditor pay their bills than afford another (potential) slumlord the luxury of our hard earned income. Besides a negotiated rent, we bring to the table our abilities in the kitchen as well as our cleaning habits which i know for sure a few r/philly redditors can attest to. We’ve crashed on couches after meetups, only to wake up and clean a kitchen, ye know, showing our appreciation to someone who allowed us to hang out late and have fun without the whole driving home intoxicated thing. Being freelance and relatively stable means we are also open to help other freelancers, local artists, or startups who may need a bigger team on the cheap. We have furniture (couch, recliner, desk, bed, chairs) and a ton of kitchen stuffs. All of which can either be consolidated before hand via yard sale or brought with, if needed. We only need space for a bed, some clothes, and a shared desk for our reddit machines. Our kitty cat gets on well with other cats/dogs after a day or so of supervised introduction, and he is always treated with top shelf flea stuff, which by the way isn’t much different than commercial pesticide. We prefer a home that doesn’t have constant parties or loud drama, and neither of us are willing to move into a ghetto. Above and beyond that, we are open to a variety of personalities and accommodations. Our goal is simple: be close to friends, spend less money, and expand on our professional opportunities (not many tech companies in doylestown).

tl;dr

Do you know anyone with a room for rent for a young couple and their cat?

edit we're on the #reddit-philadelphia IRC channel if you wanna chat. (same username)
