Just rang the church bell. Need guidance.

My character is a thief. Level 32. 14 VIT 21 END 22DEX Flask +1 Shortsword +5 Short Bow+5 Target Shield +4

I feel like I do not do a lot of damage against harder enemies and bosses nor can I take a lot of damage compared to other people I play when I am summoned.

What equipment is any do you suggest I get for my quick hit play style? Where do you recommend I go? I am trying to go underground to New Londo.
