Need a little starter help

Hey /r/Fishing I'm pretty new to fishing regularly and I don't know a lot about gear but I have been fishing since I was a little kid. I do have a few questions and any help is welcomed!

I live near a large river, the Huron River and I plan to do some fishing this summer. I know the fly fishing in the Huron is great, but I've never fly fished before so I was wondering if there are any viable ways for me to lure fish there? What kind of gear would it require?

Secondly I live near a small lake which I have been fishing for a while now. It's really shallow, the deepest parts getting up to maybe 20 feet, maybe even less. the large mouth fishing in the lake is pretty decent, my record being probably around a 20+ incher. My questions here are: what would be the best lure types to target the largemouths in the lake?

PS: I'm all catch and release unless I can find some nice crappie in the lake which I have yet to find since they drained and dredged a few years ago.
