Sony has decided to shut down Infantry servers on 03/29/12
Just thought I'd try and get the game a little visibility before it is gone forever, since Sony never actually advertised for it at all after purchasing it back in the early 2000s. It's essentially the successor to SubSpace (now known as Continuum) and is a game composed of several varied modes called Zones. It's (or rather, was) listed under the Casual/Arcade section of the SOE site, buried among the wreckage of flash games and other such junk, doomed to a life sorely lacking in exposure for how great a game it is.
Link is to the direct download location, since Sony has apparently already removed the game itself from its main site. Notable zones include GravBall (soccer mixed with basketball mixed with Tron mixed with Unreal Tournament, definitely the best sports game ever made), CTF (standard CTF type mode with incredibly varied class types and insane selection of weaponry), Mechanized Skirmish (standard loadouts and smaller scale battles. With tanks and mecha robots.), the list could go on but I'm almost as lazy as Sony's advertising team.
Anyway, this is sort of a last-hurrah type deal. Tomorrow there will probably be some action as Sundays were the usual league nights. Oh, the organized leagues were active in most zones for upwards of 20 seasons. It might actually get Sony to change their mind if we happen to see a thousand people online a few days before they plan on taking the servers down, or at least maybe they'd consider selling the license instead of being greedy douches and letting the game die while sending out C&D letters to private servers when they actually work out the source code and pop up.
Probably not, though. Still, I feel like so many people missed out on this piece of gaming history, and reddit is the only place I can think of where people might give it a chance. So please, take some time out of your gaming life and give Infantry a shot. It's a forgotten relic of a bygone era that deserves to exist.
