My fiance is a groomsman for his friends wedding. Yesterday he asked him to get a custom made tailor suit along with 5 other men costing $500+ each. Is this normal? HELP ME

Reddit, please help me.

Yesterday I got a call from my fiance letting me know that he was going to need to spend $500+ on a custom made suit for his best friends wedding. Yes, he is a groomsman/best man along with 5 others. I'm not from the US and where I'm from this doesn't happen. Or not to my knowledge.

The groom sold it to him saying that he could use it again and again and that it was a steal because his tailor was going to make it a special price since there's 5 men and he thinks that all of his other groomsman are going to go along with it. We can't even afford our own wedding yet alone spending $500+ on a suit, dropping cash on a bachelor party, and a wedding gift. Not to mention all the other things he might want to go along with the suit: shoes, shirt and whatever else. Then there's the whole idea that you have to give a gift of about $150 per each person attending the wedding. Including the bachelor party, and the cost of us actually attending the wedding it's going to be about $2000. Did I say we can't even afford our own wedding.

My fiance agreed to this because I know he felt pressured and he would be embarrassed if he were to be the only one not matching. We don't have the money for this, I just think this is really ridiculous. What ever happened to renting? What about the fact that I know he won't probably ever wear this suit again, and he can't even pick out the fabric etc. Give me advice, how to I talk him into not agreeing and making the groom realize that this is just too much.

Anyone experience this before?
