I've seen lots of posts about how quickly we went from first flight to the moon. Have the advances in space travel kept up that pace?

The innovation that took place between the first flight and the moon landing seemed to be at break neck speed. Are the current space exploration missions significantly more advanced than the moon landings or has the pace of development slowed significantly?
