Sound quality through iPod classic?

I tried to listen to a song on my iPod classic through my headphones and the bass was terrible and sounded like a blown speaker, but when I listened to the same song through the same headphones on my computer the bass sounded perfectly fine. I'm wondering if there is some iPod setting I can change to resolve this or what the actual problem is. Thank you in advance for any insight!
