Reddit, how can you tell if the childhood memory you are remembering really happened or not?

I hope this is the right subreddit...

Anywho...several years ago I randomly started "remembering" something bad that happened as a child that I had blocked out for many, many years. The problem is, it occurred when I was fairly young (about four), and with all the talk about false memories, I am not completely sure the event ever occurred. Is there any way to tell whether a memory is a false one or not? This is not something that I could go ask somebody "Hey did this happen?"
