On charity.
Hello! In the ancap-irc we've been talking a lot about charity lately. Not all of us are sure charity would work, that it would be reliable. I'm creating this thread to get some more input on the matter.
A huge problem is that we can't find any good examples of it working/not working, since true ancap societies are hard to come by. But basically, my thoughts on the matter are:
While equality is not important, everyone having enough is. I want to make sure everyone has enough for food and shelter, basic health care and maybe most importantly, all kids must have education. This poses the question: What is enough? In the end, we need to know how much money each working person would have to donate on average to make this work.
How much would the average person donate? It's hard to figure out today, since we know that the government provides a safety net. People would probably donate more if they knew people depended on it, but how much more?
So, what do you guys think? How do we ensure everyone in an ancap society has "enough", is charity reliable?
