Dentists of Reddit! Is that mouthburning Sensodyne as effective as my dentist says, or is it just because he has GSK shares?

I mean, this stuff feels like I just drunk sulfuric acid, and when I spit it, my eyes burn because of the "fumes"...

Do dentists might have interests into advising patients to buy a specific brand of toothpaste, mouthwash, ...? Or is my local store's toothpaste as good as any other one?
