Why do people act like drinking alcohol makes you manly?

Why do people act like drinking alcohol or drinking harsh liquor like whiskey makes you manly? The act is suppose to make you seem tough but then why do these manly men wear clothing with soft padded interior, or sleep on soft beds or wear a jacket in cold weather? why don't these manly men suffer being uncomfortable while drinking their hardcore liquor?
