“I am a feminist” hits my ears the same as overhearing “you’re a faggot/nigger”

If you post something about being a strong, intelligent, independent woman; or an issue of gender inequality; or of women’s rights, I support it. The same post, under the guise of “feminism” or “a feminist”, makes me immediately shut down. It makes me think of anger, frustration, and being verbally attacked for having testicles. It conjures negative mental images and emotions and makes me want to engage you as much as I want to engage someone who regularly calls others niggers, faggots, etc.

I don’t care if you are male or female. I don’t care if you are black or white. I don’t care if you are gay or straight. I don’t care about any of it.

You are a person. You are a person, not a representative of your group. You are ALSO a woman, just as you also are a musician or an athlete. You are ALSO gay, just as you are a teacher or a lawyer. But first and foremost you are a PERSON, deserving of equal rights and equal treatment.
