What's a good place to buy a quality watch? (Not digital, preferably below $600)

My friend is coming into town and he says he wants to buy a nice watch. He doesn't want a digital one (I already tried recommonding some places with nifty Japanese digital watches) and would prefer to spend less than $600, but if it's nice he'd spring for more. Any suggestions?
