Need a gaming headset that actually functions.

I've bought many gaming headsets in the past and usually after six months there is always some malfunction, ex. one ear not working, mic not transmitting or the unit itself actually getting damaged. I'm getting to the point where I'm tired of buying another 80$ Headset every few months because my current one decided to stop working one day. My question is, what's a good quality headset that has decent sound which won't break into 17 pieces the first day I get it I want to stay away from Turtle beaches & Trittons because they've proven themselves unreliable. I'm not the kind of person that plays FPS games round the clock and throws shit on the ground when I get mad, I try to treat headsets like a newborn child but somehow they end up breaking. Also I'm a PC gamer, I skype a lot and I want a cord longer than 4 feet. Any suggestions? TL;DR- I need a good headset that won't break and will last a long time without any problems.
