Questions about maintenance/restoration of some very old driftwood.

I have a sculpture of some 50+ year old drift wood that is the base to a coffee table. All that has been done to the table is the application of some "wood oil," as i've inherited it the oil has to be reapplied. The table has alot of knots and crevices so this isnt a smooth application. My question is was should i use (brand specific) to restore the wood and is the a procedure reccomended?
