am I asking too much from him?
My bf and I have been running into problems lately that it's really making me doubt our suitability for each other... I've always been a very idealistic type of dork so sometimes I worry I am asking for the impossible... I figured I'd ask for some advice.
I come from a very traditional family, and my parents are very strict on me. THey don't approve of him as they feel he's not as caring and would ultimately hurt me. I never listened because I thought I truly loved him.. and he did make me very happy at times. But when our opinions differ that it causes us to fight, he is very untolerant and basically sticks his way through the end. I very much comply with him when he has reason but sometimes he really irritates me as I feel he trolls me with irrelevant things to justify his actions.
For example:
Last night my family and I have gotten into a really huge fight because of him. It wasn't the first time but it was very stressful and hurtful to me, because based on my tradition we learn to respect our parents and elders. I spent a good 3 hours crying until 1:30am before I finally got so tired I fell asleep. I had to wake up at 7am today for an orientation workshop on campus that went until 3pm. I could barely keep my eyes open during this time. I wanted to go home right after it ended so I could get some more sleep.
My bf then texts me during this and tells me he had photo club meeting on campus at 2:30 and told me to wait for him so we could go to his place after. I really didn't want to, I was exhausted, but I was scared to disappoint him, so I agreed.
His photo club had an activity to practice taking event pictures, and there happened to be a dance competition on campus at the time, so we all headed over as the head of photo club said they should practice taking pictures of this event. About half an hour after, the head of photo club finds us all and says "change of plans. let's go back to another building (across campus) to talk about HOW to take pictures". I was really reluctant to walk all the way across campus to another buildling.. I had a blister on my feet for walking so much already that I was really slow and trailing the group. My bf walks ahead of me but occasionally looks back to make sure i'm still there. He then comes up and accuses me of complaining about my feet hurting. Which kind of hurt me because I would have been home resting if I didn't stay on campus for him. So I told him if I'm slowing him down he can go ahead without me. He then leaves me there and runs up to catch the rest of the group.
When I really couldn't keep up anymore, I found a nearby building to sit down. He texted me and said "??". I said "Is it alright if I go home then?" He said "I would be upset if you did." Nothing else. I then explained to him how it hurt me that he 1. didn't appreciate me staying on campus for him when I wanted to go home. 2. accussed me of complaining about my feet when it hurt. 3. just readily leaving me behind like that when my feet was clearly in pain.
I assume he had gotten to the other buildling by that time and the photo club head started discussing how to take pictures, because he stopped replying to my text. I sat around and waited... because I was scared if I left he would be disappointed. 15 mins later he texts me "come to room _____ we're there." He ignores my explaining of how I'm hurt and how I can't walk across campus .. and tells me to go across campus to meet him in the room with his photo club. Which really hurt me. I then text again explaining how his actions make me feel really neglected and hurt. No reply for another 45 minutes.
When his photo meeting was done, he texts me "where are you". I have my pride.. I didn't want to see him when he clearly easily ignored me when i'm hurt and only comes to talk to me again after he's done what he has to do. So I tried explaining again how his actions hurt me. He replies "where are you". I explain how he hurt me and I don't want to see him if that's how it's going to be. He replies "where are you".
I then called him, to which he picks up and says "what", to explain how his actions hurt me. He then says "You TOLD me to go ahead without you, why are you complaining? You're making no effort, you don't care, if you don't tell me where you are." He then hangs up on me while I'm talking. And then he texts me and says if I don't call him on skype I'm making no effort.
He keeps saying I'm making no effort. In my opinion, I have made the effort whereas he did not make any effort besides send me some texts when it was convenient to him. When I could barely walk because of my blister, I didn't think he would accuse me of complaining.. I thought he would put me before photo club and walk with me. I didn't realize all I was, was a burden to him enjoying photo club.. I didn't think he would actually leave me when I said "you can go if i'm slowing you down".
Times like these, I feel like he really doesn't care much about me. Or is he right and I am expecting too much?
