Someone I know robbed me...

Last night I went to my favorite bar, where I always run into people from all over Montreal (I went to a lot of schools and this is like THE spot). It was like any other night: I bought the first pitcher of beer, and then everyone else took their turn. I invited one of my friends to join us in a game of Killer Kings, and he sat down to my right, where my purse was on the floor. I hadn't been home yet so I still had my car payment money on me (silly me). He started acting really weird, and left as soon as the game was over. Later on when I checked my wallet, $200 was missing, and he had been the only person with access to it. My friends later confirmed that he spent a lot of time under the table near my bag. When I called him the first time asking him if he knew what happened (around 2:30am), he acted shocked, and pointed the finger at his own friends, who were nowhere near my bag. I heard from everyone else as they woke up today. Now that I have eye witnesses and such, he refuses to answer his phone or text messages, and not just from me, but from his friends, and anyone else that I know. I'm really disappointed, and I'm not quite sure what to do about this situation. Redditors, do you have any advice for me?

Edit: From what I've studied in criminology though, eyewitnesses aren't reliable and all my friends saw was his acting suspicious by my bag, is that enough for the police?

Update: The police are searching for him, but he's couch-hopping. The thief admitted to his best friend (who is also my friend) that he took my money to pay off a debt, but had no intention of paying me back. In conclusion, this guy gave up 4 friends, and access to his 4 favourite bars, in order to pay off a personal debt. Bravo...

Big thank you to everyone for your advice! I appreciate it:)
