How does r/Christianity tend to vote on reddit?

I'm wondering what everyone's opinions are on upvoting and downvoting. Forget about other reddits for now, but it's my understanding that you should upvote relevant statements and downvote irrelevant statements.

I think we can all admit that what tends to happen is statements we agree with or that are funny get upvoted whereas statements we disagree with get downvoted. This sort of goes against the philosophy espoused above in that a funny statement is likely to be irrelevant to the discussion whereas a statement you disagree with could be perfectly germane.

I think that we tend to use the voting system as a form of reward/punishment rather than a filter for relevant information.

So r/Christianity, what do you think about when making the decision to upvote or downvote? Does flair have an effect too?
