What are the appeals of a party/how to make more fun?

I'm not trying to sound like some anti social loser or what not, but I went to my first party that was supposedly 'off the chain' There was loud music, attractive girls, drinks etc. Everyone else was having a blast but i was on the verge of falling asleep. I got invited to another one this weekend, so any ideas to make my next party more enjoyable?
