Reddit, I have a cat problem and need some advice.
Ok, a little over two months ago I moved to a new apartment in Los Angeles that doesn't allow cats. I originally signed the lease under the assumption that they did allow tenants to have a cat, but I guess I got confused somewhere.
Anyway, I had to give my cat up. I found a really nice girl in my old building to take her and moved on knowing that my buddy was going to be living a long and happy life with her. Today I got a letter in the mail from the local kitten rescue stating that they found her on the street! She had to have minor surgery because she was vomiting due to eating some hair ties. I tried to contact the girl I gave her to, but have not been able to get a hold of her, and my old landlord said she moved.
The kitten rescue contacted me because her microchip still has my information on it. Here is my question ... What do I do? I really wouldn't mind having my cat back because she really is just super sweet, but I can't violate my lease either and I just can't afford to move. The kitten rescue will put her up for adoption in 14 days but I also want to make sure that she actually gets adopted and isn't put down. She's just too good a cat for that.
Finally, if I take her back I'm afraid that I'll need to cover any medical expenses she's incurred and I can't afford to pay for something like that for the same reason that I can't afford to move. Any advice? Is it better for me to just leave her with the rescue group or should I try to live with her under the radar at my apartment complex?
