Just heard "...helped me become whom I've always wanted to be" in a commercial. Is this correct?

At first I laughed because it sounded so obviously wrong. But then I started questioning myself. You would say "I've become him," not "I've become he," so it kind of makes sense.

So should it be "who" or "whom" and how come?
