Girls, how would you feel if a guy you don't know that well asks you to prom?

I'm 17 and a senior. There's this one really cute girl that I like but I don't really know her that well at all. We share one class together, and I've talked to her one or twice, but I don't think she's impressed or interested. I still want to ask her though. Also, she's white and I'm Indian, but I don't think that will be a problem. Should I just ask her anyway? It wouldn't matter if she said no, but I don't want the whole school finding out. Will she be creeped out if I ask her?
