First Time Knitter - This is my story!

I work for a store in Maine that sells alpaca products, including alpaca yarn. We offer "lunch and learn" series, and to start with, we chose knitting. Last Wednesday, no one showed up for the lesson, so my boss handed me a skein of yarn and told me to go learn how to knit (to make me more accessible to our customers, and so that I can know the product better), and I have to say - I'm so excited for this new skill!

This is the scarf I made in my spare time at work. I finished it today. It's just simple, straight knitting, but I'm so proud of myself! I can't wait to learn more about this wonderful art.

Funnily, the picture is showcasing the beginning of the scarf as opposed to the end, which is infinitely better. Much more consistent. The last six inches are just awesome, in my opinion.

Here's me wearing my scarf.

Any knitters in the Portland, ME area? I'd love to find a stitch-and-bitch to join. :-) Someone told me about one that meets at a bar Friday nights, but I didn't catch the name of the bar.
