Internet keeps disconnecting every 10 minutes

my internet unfailingly disconnects every 10 minutes for about 7 seconds then reconnects. it has been going on for so long i cannot stand it anymore. i have googled it and tried many of the suggestions i found to no avail. i know it's not the router because i have switched it and the problem still persists. i use dsl and am on a HP laptop. i really know very little about modems and routers so please help. will provide any additional information you need. please i've tried so long to fix this, if reddit can't help me then i am doomed with shitty internet. thanks in advanced.

Edit: it doesn't disconnect when directly connected. is that a tell in some way?
