If one's eyes were removed from their socket what's the 'Plan A' scenario for giving him back vision?

After watching Event Horizon, it's got me wondering. What would the visual cortex perceive if my eyes exploded from pressure in space?

What would be the last thing I'd see? Would the pressure immediately pop them? Would I have to shut my eyes to keep them in? o.O? Would there be a gradual warping of vision, until everything inverted?

And after that, if the recovery was immediate, could nothing be done with the optic nerve?

I guess that's my real question: If one's eyes were removed from their socket what's the 'Plan A' scenario for giving him back vision?
