May return to FFXI, have some questions.

Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before.
I was a huge FFXI player a few years ago, I've been having nostalgia for the game and want to return, especially with the steam sale this weekend.

I see that the level cap is at 99 which is cool and that you can pretty much solo the entire way, however my main reason to return would be to experience the story in ALL expansions, is that still possible? Do you still need people to help you with story missions with your city, zilart, promathia, wings or can you solo these now? If not, are there people that still do these? Also what are some classes that are most wanted at end game? I'm thinking either Asura or Bahamut for my server, which is larger, or if anyone has other suggestions.

Thanks for reading!
