Why are people hostile to EVE players that appreciate the game's beauty?

Coming off the forums after being a new player attracted EVE's beauty, I got called "artfag", was told that the game is JUST about PVP and that's the only thing the game is about, and generally got trashed.

Why is it that EVE players treat people who think EVE is beautiful so damned horribly? It's one of the most artistically relevant Space Games ever made, but apparently I can't have an opinion because I'm new?

In particular, I was talking about how I like the idea of Walking in Stations and Ships, and that if the feature is continued to be implemented I'd probably be an EVE player for life.

Is this common everywhere, or just the EVE forums? How about here?
