Female fashion mainstays that I find unattractive. You?

Edit: TL;DR

Here are some things (shaving body hair, dying hair, hair product, makeup, long fingernails, high heels, plastic surgery, breast size) that I, personally don't find attractive despite their being touted as necessary for women to attract romantic partners. I mention it personally, but maybe other people feel the same?

Incidentally, a friend of mine mentioned that, hey, you get what you're looking for. So, pretty much it works out. There are many women who have similar aesthetic or moral views as me on these issues and I can simply approach those women. I'm more just giving all women feedback from the male, 18-40 perspective. Maybe they didn't realize this perspective was out there?

OK so I started thinking about some of the accepted fashion trends for women recently. And these, ironically, I don't find attractive. What do you think about the attractiveness of these things? Do you just go along with it cause that's what we do? Do you like em? Do you hate em?

Shaving/waxing pubic hair. I am probably in the minority here, but having grown up in the 70s I can tell you that once the novelty of seeing a woman even more naked wears off, you realize that pubic hair was a turn on. Frankly, seeing pubic hair was the entire point of full frontal R-rated movies for us in the 1980s. Sure, you can trim your hair. Sure you can shave some of it. If you're really hairy, you probably should wax some of it.

And SUUUURE it's nice to not have pubic hair in my mouth. But that is sort of overshadowed by the drawbacks of razor burn and stubble. Treat that part of your body with sensitivity, I recommend.

Also, the reason we have pubic hair is more cushion for the pushin'.

But in any case, to sum up, I miss pubes.

Hair dyeing and highlighting. I'm probably in the vast minority here too, but you can tell when someone has dyed hair. It looks thick and straw-y and unhealthy. This is most noticeable with dyed-blonde hair. But many natural colors look fake. Highlights look fake too. From a distance, with eyes squinted, or looking at it as a whole, it looks great -- it adds some interest to single-toned hair. At best it allows people to have hair like certain people whose hair turns different shades when they are in the sun for a long time. But, if you take a big step back and look at it objectively, it is clearly fake and looks silly. It is one of those trends that we think is normal while it is happening and then, afterwards, realize we went overboard with. Even the most professionally-highlighted hair, in today's styles, looks artificial.

"Product." This goes for mousse and hairspray and whatever stuff you put in your hair. Part of the sexiness of a woman's hair is touching it. If I can't touch it, it's sort of unattractive, even if it's extremely attractive aesthetically.

Makeup. Mascara and lipstick or lip gloss are fine. Eye shadow, great. But when you start putting skin-colored pastes on your face to hide wrinkles or blemishes or even-out skin tone there is a problem. I can tell when you are wearing that kind of full makeup. From a distance, or in a photo, you look great. But in person, I can see it's makeup. That means I can see little irregularities in the paste. It sticks up from your face slightly. That would be OK if makeup were some non-intrusive beauty-enhancement, like, um, a tattoo. Tattoos are fake, but a nice tattoo (if you like tattoos) can be attractive.

But if you kiss a girl with full makeup, it's gross. You don't want to do that. It gets on your shirt. The lipstick smudges on your face. It's not attractive. I think that if makeup is noticeable at close range, you're not doing it right.

If you are doing it right then you may want to consider that the men you are trying to attract, may not all be attracted to it.

There is also the question of what exactly are we doing with makeup? It is weird to have one sex put on a mask to make it look attractive. And the reason we do some makeups is something we realize: Blush exists to mimic a sexual response. Same with red lipstick. And red lips also hint at the sexual response of the vulva (that is controversial so I'll link it http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=303734 ).

Oh, and on the subject of lipstick, when using lipstick, don't color past your lips. It's noticeable when you paint over the top or bottom edge. I think people do this so that their lips look bigger. It looks good from a distance. Or in a photo. But when sitting across from you, or watching a show and seeing a professionally-made-up actress who has had this done, it is obvious and looks silly.

Fingernails. Um, don't grow them long. It may be fun to get your nails done, but I don't care about it. A nice manicure is great. But, anything longer than like 1/8th of an inch over the top of the finger, is gross to me.

High heels. Come on now. Wear comfortable shoes. There are tons that are also stylish. There are some foot-people who like extreme heels and your calves look great in high heels. But I could give two shits about a woman's shoes. And seeing women wearing uncomfortable and awkward shoes is unattractive. If you like shoes, great. But you don't like how these shoes make your feet feel, so, don't wear them. That's easy to say coming from a sex where comfort takes precedence over style. And in board meetings I'm still wearing a useless and uncomfortable tie. But I still think it's valid.

Eyebrow plucking. Dude. When it was plucking the middle few hairs between your eyebrows in the 1980s that was one thing. But now it's shaping eyebrows into these tiny, obviously fake shapes. That's leaving aside some urban styles of extreme eyebrow plucking. Or even tattooed eyebrows. Tame those eyebrows. Get rid of the unibrow. But if you can fit a razor between your eyebrows, you plucked too much. I don't care if the wisdom says that your eyebrows should start where your nose meets your eyebrow ridge. It looks fake. Keep em natural-looking, is my advice.

I'll leave the most important for last: Plastic surgery. This should really be in two categories as nose-jobs and lip-injections are in a different category from breast implants. Breast implants. Never get breast implants if you have breasts, even the smallest breasts. (There may be reasons to get implants due to illness.)

I have seen lots of porn. You can tell a breast implant, if not all the time, then 99% of the time. And they are unattractive. Sure they look great under clothing. And sure, if you are standing perfectly still, 20 feet away, a good breast implant looks great. But in any position other than vertical and still, they look unattractive. In those positions they are obviously unreal. There is something to the curve of a woman's breast when she is lying down that is not emmulatable by a silicone-filled bag. Also, there are sometimes scars. I haven't actually touched a breast implant, so I can't comment on that.

I love all sizes and shapes of breasts. There is no need for these. Sure culture makes a big deal out of huge breasts. But that's mostly a superficial, image-level reaction. Yeah guys hi-five over huge breasts. But that's just a public, extroverted show, for the most part. Do they really think that? Would they really prefer that over a loving relationship with a tiny-breasted woman? No.

Now, it may be that there are some amazing surgeons out there and I didn't notice those breast implants. Buuuut, there are obviously many surgeons out there who do obvious breast implant surgeries. If a porn star with money and connections isn't able to get a perfect breast implant surgery, then it may well mean that the entire concept is simply stupid.

And, it is. I would pick natural breasts over silicone any day.

For other plastic surgery, beware. You see celebrities who have had plastic surgery? If those rich people have noticeable plastic surgery, then maybe it's hard to have good plastic surgery. Lip injections with fat are a great example. These look terrible. Sensual lips are great. Collagen-injected lips are not shaped naturally and look fake.

The problem with plastic surgery, when it's a significant procedure, is that the end result is not static. We make lots of facial expressions and some plastic surgery distorts when making those contortions.

So, to sum up, you remember "The Emperor Has No Clothes?" That's what a lot of these trends seem like to me. You remember how Chinese women used to bind their feet because tiny feet were attractive? Or how European women used to get 14 inch waists by using corsets? And you remember how we said how gross that was and how oppressive? Well, are any of these fashion trends like this? And if at least some men are not impressed with these, then why would you do this?

Incidentally, I'm not saying that any of these (apart from plastic surgery) are a really big deal. I just see that some women put a lot of effort into these things and despite all the magazines and programs about this that say these are attractive, I don't find them attractive.
