Pink Slime=Lean Beef

This is fucking ridiculous. As a person who survived HUS, and a chef, I find it hard to believe this woman is willingly standing up for these kinds of practices. It may be that pink slime or as they call it "lean beef" (LOL) has been treated in such a way that kills harmful bacteria but the root problem is the same. E.coli from beef and other food-borne pathogens come largely from improperly handled food. In a place like an industrial slaughterhouse, this poor handling comes from cost cutting measures like poorly trained, overworked staff, shortcuts in processing and sub-par sanitation practices. The sole purpose of these measures being to increase the bottom line of the companies who run them. Another profit-producing practice is to take all the shit you can scrape off the killing room floor and sell it to the consumer under the guise of "lean beef". Take all the scrap, grind it up with some ammonia and watch profit margins soar. Do you want to eat that? I sure as hell don't, no matter how "clean" it may be. They are giving you dog food and telling you it's just as good as prime rib.
