I am 23 years old and am looking to get my first credit card. Help me reddit! What do I need to know!?

As the title says I'm looking to get my first piece of plastic. I have a couple of questions that I want to ask outright, and would appreciate anything that I should know that I might not think of until it's too late. My credit Rating is at a 712 at the moment if that has any bearing on what to do from here.

• Which companies should I go with/avoid and why?

• I'm not the best at budgeting. Can I make my payments automatically? Is this suggested? What alternative methods of payment would you suggest?

• What kind of rewards should I look out for (Air miles, etc)?

And of course one silly question...

• How can I put a custom picture on my card?

Please, answer these questions for me reddit. I really have no idea what I'm doing and don't want to screw myself later on. I'm sure the questions I have barely scrape the surface of what I should be asking, so I'm relying on you! Tell me what I need to know!!!
