Foriegner wanting to study set design?

Hey redditors! I'm an Australian looking to study set design for stage and film in NYC. Soooo cost is an issue (holy crap are they expensive) Tisch looks incredible but as a private university it is waaay to much. Does anybody know any state or community collages that run the course? thank you =]
